The Brandon Township Public Library will be hosting a new program for the residents of Sashabaw Meadows and Clarkston Lakes thanks to a grant received from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
“Our desired outcome is that the books and classes will promote Lifelong Learning and love for literature,” said Library Outreach Liaison Fran Hotchkiss. “These materials and experience from the weekly classes will enhance and enrich their lives and they will share the information with family members.”
The $2,000 grant will help fund the program “Fill Your Mind and Shelf With Knowledge”—from July 11-Aug. 15 for as many as 40 students ages 6-12 at the Sashabaw Meadows Clubhouse.
Each week the students will learn something new and receive one or more new books for their provided book shelf. Topics include creative writing, relaxation and yoga, how to play the recorder, Spanish and more.
“We also hope to our weekly attendance for our storytime we currently do every week year round and also the families will come to the library, get library cards and enjoy everything the library has to offer for all ages,” she added,
There are only 40 spaces for the students of Sashabaw Meadows and Clarkston Lakes, and Hotchkiss anticipates the spaces will fill quickly. Call 248-627-1462 to register students for the program.
