The Addison Twp. Fire Departmant had to call on the services of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department’s Fire Investigation Unit after putting out a fire on Wednesday, Dec. 30.
At 10:25 a.m., Addison Twp. firefighters responded to a chimney fire at a residence in the 5700 block off of Hosner Road in Addison Twp.
According to Addison Fire Cheif Jerry Morawski, the call came over the radio as a chimney fire with no smoke or flames showing, but could hear something.
By the time the fire department arrived, flames could be seen coming from the roof of the one-and-a-half story, 1,650-square-foot house.
The fire consumed 90 percent of the roof and caused nearly $350,000 in damage to the house and its contents.
Morawski stated that the house was destroyed.
An investigation was conducted by an OCSD Fire Investigator, and he determined that the cause of the blaze was accidental and due to something inside the wood-burning stove catching on fire.
