Fire investigators are still trying to determine the exact cause of a blaze that nearly destroyed a home on North Long Lake on Jan. 3.
The Orion Township Fire Department responded to the homeowner’s 911 call at about 11:30 a.m., and chief Jeff Key said they found the home fully involved in fire when they arrived.
‘There were a lot of flames and smoke,? he said. ‘It involved a fair size of the house, including the center portion near the laundry and furnace room, into the garage on one side and the house on the other.?
A cause has yet to be found, but Key said it is believed the fire was accidental.
‘One of the homeowners was inside at the time and discovered the fire, and called 911,? he said. ‘There is a lot of fire damage to the center of the home, and smoke and heat damage throughout the rest.?
Key said a car that was in the garage at the time was also very damaged.
‘We left the scene around 1:30, 2 p.m., I believe,? he said.
