Voters will be asked to improve a fire operating millage renewal and increase on the Aug. 4 primary election ballot.
Successful approval of the renewal and increase would return the fire operating millage to a full one mill.
Orion Township’s Fire Department’s current millage is .9862 of one mill. The renewal and increase would be for four years, starting December 2004, for the operation and maintenance of the fire department, including the purchase of equipment and buildings.
Approval would permit authorization to levy $1 per $1,000 of taxable value on all taxable property in the township and village.
The proposal would result in an estimated $1,650,000 in the first year. The proposal contains preliminary numbers that would be revised following the Board of Review hearings in March.
