Lady Kickers practiced taking shots on the net during their chilly Monday afternoon practice.
While some made it and some went off to the side, the players made a mental note and continued on.
‘We are working on finishing,? said Coach Sarah Wasilk.
She was having the girls work on it after they tied their first game of the season against Brandon High School last Friday night, 1-1.
‘We had the ball in front of the net and plenty of opportunities and we couldn’t capitalize.?
Clarkston’s goal came at the beginning of the first half of the game when Jackie Gipe passed the ball to Lauren Wagner.
Wagner took a shot on the net and made it in to score.
The girls made five more shots on goal during the first half.
‘It was a rough first half,? said Wasilk. ‘It was a battle in the middle, but they certainly played really well together in the second half.?
They made 12 shots on the Blackhawk’s goal in the last half of the game, but couldn’t make it past the goalie.
Hannah Scherer tied the game for Brandon in the last few minutes.
Goalie Demaree Wells saved five shots made on the net.
The girls played Waterford Kettering in their home opener on Tuesday and will travel to Waterford Mott on Thursday night.
‘Mott is going to be tough,? said Wasilk.
‘We tied them last season (2-2). This year they are a good team. They have a really good forward. It’s hard to say what will happen. They are certainly not a team I am going to take lightly.?
JV begins at 5 p.m. on Thursday and varsity follows.
The girls travel to Farmington Hills Harrison next Tuesday.
