Holiday food drives have begun in the Lake Orion and Oxford area. Area businesses have started collecting food for Oxford/Orion FISH.
So far, the Lake Orion Post Office, Oxford Leader and Oxford Township have all placed boxes in their lobbies. Several more local businesses are expected to begin collecting soon. Many area churches and schools will also be collecting for FISH.
Drop off non-perishable items at Immanuel Church at the corner of Hovey and Dennison Streets in Oxford by Nov. 18.
Items needed include canned fruit, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, canned yams, pumpkin pie filling, evaporated and dry milk, dry gravy packets, cream of mushroom soup, stuffing, instant potatoes, pie crust mix, corn/muffin mix, biscuit mix, Dream Whip; Jello pudding, cake/cookie mix.
This year FISH has requested that people donate grocery gift cards in $10, $15, $20 increments instead of foods such as turkey, meats and fresh produce that need cold storage.
