Coordinators for the fourth annual Good Times in Goodrich say this year’s festivities will be bigger and better than ever.
On Sept.13, events will be at the Village Commons Park and in the Goodrich Downtown District.
On Sept. 14, the annual ‘Restaurant Rendezvous? will be in the Park Pavilion showcasing area restaurant foods. Live music will be performed by the ‘Rock of Ages Big Band?, a big band and gospel group. The $10 donation will benefit the Goodrich Chamber of Commerce scholarship foundation.
This is the second year Jenny McKenzie, the Goodrich P.T.O.(Parent Teacher Organization) vice-president, has been the chairperson for the event. She and Co-Chair, Patty Plant, owner of Cranberries Cafe?, say this is a great chance to spend the day wandering the streets of Goodrich to get to know local business owners, neighbors and have a whole lot of fun.
‘The music is going to be great this year,? said McKenzie. ‘We will have a DJ and live music with two professional sound men to run the music during the entire day.?
The Boy Scouts? pancake breakfast will make sure runners and walkers have enough to eat before the ‘Feat on the Street? 5K Race. McKenzie said there is still plenty of time to sign up for the race. The $20 entry fee goes to the Goodrich P.T.O. ‘It’s a great cause,? said McKenzie.
Plant said this is the first time she is going to have a backyard beer and barbeque with live music behind her cafe?. ‘Parents can pay for a babysitter at the evening ‘Community Dance in the Park? while they go to the barbeque,? she said.
Another way parents can enjoy everything, McKenzie said is to leave their children at the bounce house. ‘There will be a wristband system so parents can wander the park while the kids bounce away,? said McKenzie.
The Goodrich Garden Club is sponsoring the sunflower contest. Club president Kathy Adair said lots of ribbons and prizes will be given out. The six categories will be, tallest (no roots), widest face, largest diameter stalk, shortest (roots attached), smallest face and most flowers on a single stem.
The Goodrich/Atlas Chamber of Commerce sponsors ‘Good Tines in Goodrich? every year. ‘When the the chamber of commerce started this event, the whole idea was to bring people in the community together,? said Plant. ‘This is a chance to support our local businesses. The more our residents do that, the better chance our businesses will have to stay in the community.?
