After reading about the Poppy Sale deficit in last week’s Clarkston News, ‘Poppy drive hit by sales rules,? American Legion Post 63 Commander Keith Marbutt said he has received a lot of positive support.
In particular, the Harvey Rice Foundation covered the entire estimated loss of $2,500, after volunteers were unable to collect donations for Memorial Day poppies at a local Kroger store.
On Monday, Marbutt, Amy Laboissonniere, president of the American Legion Post 63 Ladies Auxiliary, and Poppy Chairperson Cyndi Kamat accepted the $2,500 check from the Rice Foundation.
‘We’re so grateful for the support,? Marbutt said.
Donations from the Poppy Sale are used to help veterans and their families, explained Laboissonniere.
The funds go to care packages the American Legion sends to troops overseas, and help cover veterans? heating and electricity bills in the winter.
Leading the effort to help the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary were Foundation Investment Advisor Henry Woloson and Foundation Trustee John Solecki.
‘The veterans have made an enormous contribution to the citizens,? Woloson said. ‘If we were in a position to solve the problem, we’re happy to do it.?
