Gentleman, start your duckies!

JUST DUCKY – The Oxford-Lake Orion Optimist Club held their annual Duck Race and Family Picnic Saturday in downtown Lake Orion’s Children’s Park. Selling 1,179 pink, blue and yellow plastic toy ducks for $5 each along with 50/50 raffle tickets and T-shirts, the Optimists raised more than $6,000, according to Past Club President Pam Andrews. In keeping with the club’s motto, “Friend of Youth,” all the money raised will benefit area youth. A short stretch of Paint Creek running through the park once again served as the race course for the armada of little ducks. The first one to cross the finish line was purchased by Oxford Township attorney Gary Rentrop, who won $999. Second place went to J.P. Miller, who won a new color TV, and third to Christopher Investments, who won a $100 Savings Bond. The last place duck was owned by Oxford Village resident and Township Planning Commission Chairman George Herring, who won $200. To see more pics of the big race, please purchase an Oxford Leader.
