Ghost hunting program OK’d by township

Brandon Twp.- Bring on the ghosts.
The township board approved by a 5-1 vote at their May 7 meeting a plan by the library to host a ghost hunting program in one of the township’s inactive cemeteries.
Library Assistant/Information Technology Specialist Ben Peterson made the request after the library received opposition to a plan to have the program in the Ortonville Cemetery.
‘They (members of the Ortonville Cemetery Association) preferred we not hold it there, because it’s an active cemetery and they’ve had vandalism problems,? said Peterson. ‘We respect that.?
Instead, the program scheduled for July 13 will have the Ghost Hunters of Southern Michigan (GHOSM) show, in one of the local historic cemeteries, techniques they have used in their quest to prove ghosts do exist. Peterson expressed interest in Eaton Cemetery, established in 1840 and located off Honert Road, near State Park Road. Other options include Carmer Cemetery, established in 1832 off State Park Road near Sands Road, and Shurter Cemetery, off Perry Lake Road near Seymour Lake Road.
‘We’re looking to have some fun,? said Peterson. ‘Safety and respect to the cemetery is our number one priority. No running and yelling. Some may not think it’s serious, but we and GHOSM take it seriously. We want to show what they do and how they do it.?
A previous GHOSM program at the library had about 100 attendees, Peterson said.
