Professional golfer Tom Gillis, a native of the Oxford/Orion area, is still in the hunt for the FedEx Cup, the championship trophy for the PGA Tour.
Gillis is projected to advance to next week’s BMW Championship in Lemont, Illinois ? the third of four PGA Tour playoff events. According to the PGA website, Gillis is currently ranked No. 48 in the FedEx Cup standings. He was ranked No. 92 the week before.
Gillis went up because he did very well in the Deutsche Bank Championship. He tied for fifth place with a total score of 268 after four rounds of play. As a result, he won $273,750.
So far this year, Gillis has competed in 23 events. Although he’s won none, he has managed to finish in the Top 10 on three occasions. He finished in the Top 25 seven times this year.
To date, Gillis has earned $1.07 million on the PGA Tour this year. ? CJC
