It was an historic night at Wildcat Stadium Monday as Oxford High School’s girls lacrosse team played its debut game as a full-fledged varsity sport.
And what a debut it was as the team stomped Walled Lake United 19-4.
‘I really didn’t know what to expect going in because it’s the first game of the season for us,? said Coach Andrew Bausack. ‘You never know how rusty they’re going to be. Nineteen is probably a few more goals than I thought we would score.?
Bausack was definitely pleased with his team’s performance as it made the big leap from club sport to varsity sport.
‘I think they played well, especially offensively,? he said. ‘They made good decisions. They played well as a team. They used each other to set up the goals.
‘I like that it wasn’t just one girl doing all the work. The scoring load was spread out. Everybody contributed, even defensively.?
Leading the team with 5 goals was Madi Eschberger. She was followed by Emma Kimmel who scored 4 goals.
Jordan Pieczynski made a strong contribution with 3 goals.
Scoring 2 goals each were Abby Wrobel and Brenda Flasher.
Brittany Basela, Brooklyn Allen and Sam Myers each scored a goal.
