Everest Academy’s fifth grade Challenge Girls? Club included the entire Clarkston community in a service project benefiting the Lighthouse of Oakland County.
They went around downtown Clarkston, Nov. 5-19, and asked businesses if they would put up signs promoting the clothing drive. Two businesses, Healthquest and the Real Estate One/Max Brook, agreed to be drop-off locations. In the span of one week, the community filled two large boxes with clothes and shoes.
The girls then ran a toiletries drive in their school, in which they again filled two large boxes with shampoo, toothpaste, lotion, and other personal care items.
On Nov. 19, the girls loaded the items into two cars and brought them to Lighthouse on Sashabaw Road, and helped to unload and sort them.
Challenge Club is for girls in grades 5-8, led by high school team leaders and supported by volunteer moms and the consecrated women of Regnum Christi. The Everest Academy club is one among many within southeastern Michigan. For more information about the Challenge program, contact Yvonne Fontaine at 248-860-4158.
