Goodrich – Since March, judges have been reviewing student-produced publications from across the country.
The 2005 Student Publishing Awards Midwest Regional Winner for middle school publications was the GMS Press, produced by the students of Goodrich Middle School.
The GMS Press has a staff of 20 students, including three editors, who met two to three times a week to turn out this year’s eight editions.
More than 130 finalists were judged by news professionals at Time and Time For Kids magazines, TimeForKids.com, and CNN.
‘They worked hard, and they deserve it,? said staff sponsor Vicki Kehoe, who plans to pay out-of-pocket for a trip to Washington, D.C. to accept the award, along with a student who will foot the bill for the trip.
The GMS Press has won the award two years in a row, says Kehoe.
