Clarkston SCAMP’s 23rd annual Golf Classic will take place on Friday, Sept. 10 at White Lake Oaks Golf Course.
The golfer fee includes a buffet breakfast, lunch, hors d’oeuvres and a premium open bar. The cost is $125. All proceeds benefit SCAMP, a local summer camp for children and young adultswith special needs.
Registration and breakfast will start at 7:45 a.m., and the shotgun start is at 9 a.m.
Participants will take part in an 18-hole scramble. Golfers can sign up as a group of four when they preregister, or SCAMP will aid in joining together uneven teams.
Three teams will win cash prizes: one all-men team, one all-women team and one mixed team.
There will be a silent auction during the event. Items include 10 sets of four vouchers to surrounding golf courses, as well as an autographed photo of Detroit Tigers? Alex Avila.
There will also be special event contests and prizes.
‘It’s a fun day,? said Donna Clancy, executive director of Clarkston SCAMP. ‘It’s not a tournament. Everyone who comes is there supporting SCAMP.?
Participants may see campers supervising the contests. Clancy said her favorite part of the outing is ‘introducing SCAMPers to the people who support them.?
Buck Kopietz is a Clarkston resident who was chairperson of SCAMP’s first outing in 1988.
He said that while planning the event took a lot of energy — especially with more physical work involved in the early outings — the effort was worth it.
‘There weren’t a lot of golf outings at that time for charity,? he said. ‘It was a positive experience for everyone who participated.?
Sponsor opportunities are still available for businesses, ranging from $100 to $3,500 donations.
All business names will be featured on individual signs displayed at the outing. The names will also be listed in next year’s brochure.
