The Wildcat men competed exceptionally well on Sept. 7 at the Baron Invitational.
With 81 strokes, Jerred Pender led the team. Following in second was teammate Joel Haden with 87 and in third Chad Brown with 88.
‘We played great, we have young players but they are improving,? said Brown.
The team was happy with the course and referred to it as one of the best of the season. Pender’s score was a personal best for the season, as well as Joel Haden’s. Not only did Pender surpass himself, but his score put him in the top ten players of the Flint Metro League.
Just two days after the Baron Invite, the Cats lost a tough match to put them 1-1 in the league. This time they faced their strongest opponent, the Fenton Tigers, in only their second league meet of the season.
‘We just had a bad day,? said Pender. ‘We are a young team and we are getting better.?
Unlike most teams in the league, Oxford is working with mostly underclassmen. Players like Stephen Smith, Jerred Pender and Chad Brown are passing down the knowledge of the game.
The Varsity Golf Team has two more home meets. On Sept 20, they are teeing off against Brandon at 3:30 p.m. Three days later, on Sept. 23, Lapeer East will face off for another big match. All home meets are at Oxford Hills golf course.
