Frankenmuth — Parker and Jensen LePla combined for 43 of the Martians 54 points on Dec. 22 as Goodrich improved to 5-2 with a 54-44 win over the Frankenmuth Eagles in a non-league varsity boys basketball road match up. GHS Jr. #25 Chase Burnett chipped in eight points.
“Our defense was solid in the first half,” said GHS Head Coach Gary Barns. “The Eagles can really shoot that ball. The Eagles play in a tough league. We were up 34-19 at halftime and I told the boys this team is not going to quit.”
The Martians raced out to a 11-0 lead in the first quarter, before the Eagles rallied in the third quarter to cut the deficit to just three points. The Martians went on to out-score the Eagles by seven in the fourth quarter to ice the victory.
“We had some good things happen,” said Barns. “When the LePla brothers are clicking they’re a tough act. The Eagles could just not guard the brothers in the fourth quarter. Jensen just lit it up from outside the arch. Burnett did some really good things too, set some excellent screens and never took a play off. We have that next man up syndrome, I try to coach all 12 players, not just one.”
FHS Sr. #3 Thomas Conzelmann had 14 points and FHS Sr. #10 Carson Knoll added 9 points along with seven rebounds in the loss.
