Goodrich-A school bus driver resigned following an accident early last month.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., April 10, district school bus driver Debra Wilcox-Terryah, 47, apparently veered off the road at the corner of Washburn and Tody roads, according to Lapeer County Sheriff’s Department. The bus was then stuck in the mud.
Superintendent Kim Hart said there were eight Reid Elementary School students on board at the time of the incident. There were no injuries but the bus sustained some damages when the side scraped a tree. A second bus was dispatched to pick up both the students and driver.
The 1998 bus was towed to the district garage. An insurance assessment reported approximately $6,000 in damages to the bus.
Hart said she did not know what caused Wilcox-Terryah, who had approximately eight years of experience as a bus driver, to go off the road.
Wilcox-Terryah passed a mandatory drug test following the occurrence. She did not respond to requests for a comment and was put on paid leave from April 10 to April 18..
School personnel launched an investigation of the incident, which was halted when the driver tendered her resignation the following day.
‘The safety of our students is always our number one priority,? said Hart. ‘We will do whatever we need to do to make sure that safety is maintained.?
