Goodrich Commons to receive facelift

Goodrich- The Commons may become a warm-weather hot spot for locals this summer.
Village council president Ed York announced during the April 9 meeting the council’s intention of revamping the Commons area near M-15 and Erie Street to draw the community together for some fun in the sun.
The council is looking at ways of ‘making it more user friendly and creating more situations to get people down there,? said York.
York said the council is looking at free and low-cost options to improve the area and make the area more appealing to residents.
Among options being considered are: removing the fence; cleaning and repairing grills; removing the neglected basketball court; new benches; another sheltered area; bringing live music performances and possibly the addition of a farmer’s market.
‘People then will be able to expect each week or every other week that there’s going to be something down there,? said York.
York said the council hopes to have some improvements underway by June, but that some of the work is contingent on what, if any, effect construction projects in the area would have on those efforts.
Volunteers are needed to do everything from planting flowers to performing music in the park.
York encouraged anyone interested in attending such summer activities to contact the village offices to voice their support to help gauge community interest in the project.
Additionally, anyone interested in volunteering to improve the Commons is asked to contact the office as well.
