Goodrich — The 2024 Goodrich golf season is now in full swing.
The team is set to build off a strong seventh place finish at the Division 3 State Finals last year as a testimony to the team’s hard work, dedication and achievements.
“Winning the 2023 Metro League Conference Championship along with winning the school’s first D-3 Girls Regional Championship since the inception of the program in 2014, has set the bar high for the season, said Head Coach Loyd Walter
This year’s squad returns two accomplished upperclassmen in Senior Co-Captain Sanora Kochan and Junior Co-Captain Madi Sheerin. Both Sanora and Madi are the building blocks of the Goodrich Girls Golf program and have stellar resumes to back it up. Sanora and Madi are coming into the season with 2023 Flint Metro League First Team All-Conference recognition along with D-3 All State Honors Status.
Also returning to this year’s squad is Sophomore Brookelyn Webb, a second team Metro league All Conference player.
“Without a doubt Brookelyn has made the biggest difference in this season’s team scoring,” said Walter. “If I was giving early season awards, she would definitely get my vote for most improved. She has taken her performance levels to new heights and other coaches are starting to take notice. Her confidence has improved immensely.”
Rounding Out the top four is Junior Hailey Madill, a Flint Metro Honorable Mention selection last season.
Hailey has been a three-year varsity player for Lady Martians following the footsteps of her sisters who all played for coach Walter at Goodrich.
Hailey is a good ball striker and could be a real sleeper for the Lady Martians.
“I think with Hailey it’s her consistency level that she is trying to improve,” he said. “Once Hailey gets it, she will have a competitive edge over her opponents from the number four position.
The remainder of the Goodrich Varsity Team consist of Junior Cassandra Williams and four new freshmen Lahna Palshan, Leighton Schell, Lilly Schell and Brooklyn Jordan.
“I’m pleased with the advanced skill sets of some of the new freshmen,” he said. “It shouldn’t surprise me knowing the competitive edge they have acquired comes from competing in Club Swim.”
