Brandon Twp.- A 24-year-old Goodrich man may face life in prison after shooting a man in the neck at a local bar.
Brandon Chase Rollin was arraigned July 23 in front of 52-2 District Court Judge Dana Fortinberry on charges of assault with intent to murder; assault to do great bodily harm less than murder (an alternate to the first charge); discharging a firearm in a building; and possession of a firearm in restricted premises.
The charges stem from an incident which occurred after 11 p.m. on July 20 at Bullfrogs Bar & Grill, 2225 Ortonville Road, when, according to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Office report, Rollin got into a verbal argument with the victim and then requested the victim meet him outside or in the bathroom to fight.
Rollin followed the victim into the bathroom, where an altercation started and, according to reports, Rollin drew a concealed .38 caliber ruger SP 101 revolver and fired once, striking the victim in the neck.
Rollin, who has a concealed weapons permit and had no current criminal history, fled the scene in his vehicle. He called 9-1-1 minutes later and turned himself in to authorities.
The 28-year-old victim was taken to Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc and was initially listed in critical condition, but improving.
‘Our thoughts and prayers are with the individual who was injured,? said Kim Hagar, co-owner of Bullfrogs.
Hagar noted that while the case is under investigation, it is her understanding there had been friction among the two people involved. She called it an unfortunate incident that could have happened anywhere.
‘We’ve been in the community for eight-and-a-half years and I hope this doesn’t cause negative reflection on our reputation or name,? Hagar said. ‘We’ve done a lot in the community. My children and friends and family are in (Bullfrogs) all the time. Obviously, I feel it is safe.?
Hagar notes the business has trained managers and full-time bouncers and procedures in place to make the restaurant a safe environment. She plans to work with local law enforcement agents on further prevention measures and promised, ‘We will continue to be a fun place to go for everyone.?
Rollin was housed at the Oakland County Jail. Bond was set at $175,000, cash or surety, no 10 percent.
