Goodrich softball sweeps Genesee, remains undefeated

Goodrich’s softball team followed up a successful showing at the Hudson Tournament with a sweep of a league foe.
The host Martians defeated Genesee in both ends of an April 18 doubleheader, winning 10-0 in the opener and 16-1 in the nightcap. Only the first game counted in the league standings.
Goodrich is now 9-0 overall and 3-0 in Genesee Area Conference Red Division action.
Jessica Morgan won both ends of the twin bill for Goodrich.
In the opener, Kelsey Krych went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four stolen bases, while Ellen Nothhelfer went 2-for-2 and Tara Garman went 2-for-3 with a double.
In the nightcap, Krych went 4-for-4 with a triple and two walks, while Garman went 2-for-3 with a double, home run, and two RBI, Kortni Elsworth went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four stolen bases, and Sydney Mahalak went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
The Martians captured the Hudson Invitational April 16 with three wins on the day, including a 12-0 defeat of Hudson in the championship game, which lasted six innings.
Morgan worked five innings and struck our four while allowing only one hit. Julie Owen went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs, while Elsworth went 3-for-4 and drove in five runs.
The Martians also defeated Adrian 4-2 and Blissfield 4-2 to advance to the title game, with Morgan winning both games.
