Goodrich volleyball team wins district championship

On Nov.7 the Goodrich Varsity Volleyball team defeated Corunna in the district finals at Powers High School in Flint. Goodrich won in 5 sets; 23-25, 25-19, 25-23, 30-32, 15-13.
‘This is an awesome win for this group of girls,? said Robyn Batterbee, head coach. ‘They have worked hard for this and are so deserving. This match was neck and neck every step of the way. Full of excitement and just great volleyball. I am so proud of them for their persistence and will to keep working hard and pushing for every point. They literally never gave up when they very well could have. I just wish we could have put the match away sooner because my heart can’t take this.My hat is off to Corunna, they played very tough today.This is our first district win since 2010.?
Stats for the game, Abby Francis – 23 kills, 100 percent serving, 13 digs, 2 blocks;Kamryn Wallace – 21 assists, eight kills, 100 percent serving, 10 digs;Kristi Doherty – 91 percent serving, eight kills, 26 assists, six digs.
On Nov. 10, the Martians defeated Cros-Lex in the Regional Semifinals. Goodrich won 25-21, 25-10, 25-15 and brough a record of 37-9-1 into the regional finals game on Nov. 12.
Stats of the Cros-Lex game, Kamryn Wallace – 15 assists, 21/21 serving, five kills. Abby Francis – 100 percent serving, eight kills. Kristi Doherty – 13 assists, five kills and Madison Becker – 14/14 serving, 4 kills.
Following the Cros-Lex victory, Coach Batterbee said, ‘I thought we played a little flat even though we won. We need to play a more aggressive offense to keep the tempo of the game up. I was pleased with our defense. We did a great job of pursuing the ball consistently. Definitely have to have more energy when we come to play on Thursday against Marysville for the MHSAA Regional Championship at Imlay City.?
