Goodrich will celebrate their annual Downtown Christmas 5-9 p.m. on Dec. 7.
‘Downtown Christmas started about 10 years ago,? said organizer Patty Plant, owner of Cranberries Cafe, 10250 Hegel Road.’I wanted to bring the community together at the holiday time. It has since grown, especially since the Goodrich/Atlas Chamber of Commerce has sponsored it the last two years.?
Festivities include face painting, storytelling and refreshments hosted by Friends of the Library in the library community room at 10237 Hegel Road; a live nativity and crafters in the park; and horse drawn trolley rides from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Goodrich Historical Society.
‘The horse drawn trolley rides are great, ? said Plant, adding it was fun to see the village decorated.
The tree lighting will take place at 6 p.m. downtown, with Pastor Karl Zeigler of the Goodrich United Methodist Church reading the Christmas story.
The big guy himself, Santa Claus, will be passing out candy, and to make sure Rudolph and his friends don’t feel left out, Kids Klothes Line,10242 Hegel Road, will have reindeer food on hand throughout the celebration.
Cranberries Cafe will feature live music from 7-10 p.m. and Boy Scout luminaries will line the street.
The Goodrich Parent Teacher Organization will be selling Spirit Wear and Script gift certificates and the Robotics teams will be sponsoring Whaley’s Children Home with pajamas, socks and slippers for ages 6-17.
Cider, apples and popcorn balls will be available from GUMC and chef Mitch Plant will be offering soup on the street.
Plant said choirs, bands and ensembles are still needed to perform at the celebration, and fund raising and community groups are still welcome to participate.
Downtown Christmas is an event that’s ‘great for families or friends,? said Plant. ‘It is a wonderful way to start the holiday season right here in our home town ? to see friends and neighbors and share the community warmth.?
