Unusually warm fall weather made Lake Orion High School’s annual Homecoming festivities extra fun for everyone in the community this year. The ‘Armed Forces? theme spotlighted the students? patriotic spirit, plus their school pride and competitive drive.
On Sunday, kicking off the week the senior class ruled the tug-of-war and other Activity Night contests at the football field. Monday’s student pep assembly saw junior- and senior-class boys square off in an amusing dance competition. Themed clothing days produced all kinds of combinations of colors and patterns, ruled by green-and-white on last day. The annual Powder Puff football game pitting junior and senior girls against each other was a blowout, with the class of 2012 winning big.
The Homecoming Parade through the streets of Lake Orion drew Dragon fans young and old, with the spirited marching band and school dance teams leading the way. The event featured kids from every school in the district showing their pride, plus the senior Homecoming Court with big smiles and waves for the crowds. That night, before a frenzied packed crowd Lake Orion ran over Troy Athens for its sixth win of the season. At halftime, the Dragon marching band and dancers entertained fans before the Homecoming King was named and his mother accepted his crown, while he rested in the locker room. The new Queen, meanwhile, put her poms down to don her tiara. Saturday’s Homecoming dance featured a new DJ and cool air blasts to cool off the teenage dancers. Giant screen televisions and crowd cams captured the moment.
There was something for everyone during this year’s Homecoming week in Lake Orion. From the school halls to village streets, generations of current, past and future Dragons showed why our high school is the best ? on and off the football field.
