On Jan. 19, at 6 p.m., a Brandon deputy responded to a group home in the 300 block of Mill St. for a missing person.
The complainant, an employee of the group home, said a resident was picked up from the home at noon by a transportation company for a doctor appointment in Waterford and she had not heard from him since. She called the doctor’s office and learned the group home resident had signed in, but he was never seen by the doctor. The transportation company never bothered to tell her the man, who has schizophrenia and dementia, had gone missing.
He was found safe the morning of Jan. 21 in the area of Summit Place Mall by Waterford police officers after a tip from someone who recognized him from television broadcasts the night before. He had stayed warm by frequenting businesses and 24-hour restaurants.
He was returned to the group home.
