Groveland Twp.- The township board has approved hiring an environmental consulting firm to review a proposed development in the township.
At their meeting Nov. 14, the board approved a $2,500 contract with Dragun Corporation of Farmington Hills. The company will evaluate a proposal by Bedrock Express to purchase 20 acres of township property at the end of Shields Road, north of Grange Hall Road. Barry Bass, owner of Bedrock, has proposed construction of some buildings on the site for recycling concrete, wood, and shingles.
‘We are hoping this works,? said Township Supervisor Bob DePalma. ‘It might be a good nucleus to start an environmentally green valley, with businesses that want to do similar things.?
The township owns almost 200 acres of property in that area. Bedrock would purchase about 20 acres and in facilities constructed there, would grind up shingles for asphalt, wood for wood chips, and reduce concrete for construction projects.
‘Recycling is a solution to a lot of problems and Barry is proposing recycling materials into fully reusable products,? DePalma said. ‘We’ve been talking about it on and off for a couple years and we are at the point he wants to do it.?
The township boardmembers have visited similarly used sites in other communities, DePalma said, and what they saw was ‘clean and environmentally sound.?
Dragun will determine conditions on sale of the property and all pertinent questions the township should consider. DePalma said a formal proposal has not yet been made, but Bedrock is putting together drawings for the planning commission. He expects a formal proposal within the next two months.
