Andersonville Elementary Kindergarten students visited Independence Township Senior Center as part of their Kindergarten Kares Academic Service Learning Project, May 18.
They planted vegetable plants they grew for the center’s garden bed.
The students created and maintained a worm compost box, funded by the Clarkston Farm and Garden Club. They separated the compost from the worms so they could use the compost to pot their vegetable seedings.
Then, they watched them grow and took care of them until the plants were ready for the senior center.
They also took a tour of the center, had a picnic lunch and hosted a ice cream social.
They partnered with the Independence Township Senior Center all year by creating crafts for the various senior events and played games during Grandparents Days.
The trip was a celebration for all the service learning they participated in during the year.
