On Nov. 26, a 54-year-old Independence Township man was arrested for felonious assault with a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon after allegedly drawing a gun on two hunters he felt were trespassing.
Around 10 a.m. on this date, a father and son reportedly hunting on a friend’s land with permission claimed they were confronted by the property owner on Allen Road who allegedly pointed a gun at them. The hunters backed away calling police.
After arriving on scene, deputies confiscated the gun after being led to the weapon by the suspect. The gun was found fully loaded.
One of the hunters claimed he may have been sitting on a bait pile near the property line, but that the altercation took place on the land owned by his friend, not the suspect.
The hunters said they tracked a deer to the land near Allen Road where they met and conversed with the property owner’s son before the man showed up drawing the firearm.
