Harry Mansfield, formerly of Ortonville, died April 29 at his home in Chelsea.
He was 88.
Harry was born November 14, 1918 in Barking, Essex County, England, the son of William J. & Rosanna (Warrilow) Mansfield.
He became an American citizen on Sept. 3, 1930 in Detroit. Harry graduated from Pontiac High School in January 1936 and was employed at various southeastern Michigan auto dealerships as parts or service managers from 1939-1977. He retired from Scan Data Corp. on June 1, 1979. Harry was the President of the Pontiac Optimist Club in 1952.
On June 10th, 1939, he married Garnetta M. Olive in Pontiac and she preceded him in death on Feb. 18. He is survived by children, Anita (Kurt) Metzger, of Chelsea, Dawn (Kim) Kay of Howell, Alan (Pam) of Chelsea, and Ronald Dean (Julie) Swanson of Oshkosh, Wis.; sisters, Barbara (William) Eldridge of Rochester Hills, Francis (Lloyd) Dawson of Kansas City, Kan.; brothers, Arthur (Ruth) of Tellico, Tenn., Francis ‘Joe? (Mary) of Oscoda; grandchildren, Angela (Paul) Pomerleau, Karl Metzger, Karen (William) Zimmer, Diane, Andrew and Robert Kay; and Jonathan, Erica, Jennifer, and Laura Swanson; seven great-grandchildren, Michelle, Paul and Brandon Pomerleau, Kassidy, Cole, Nathan, and Natalie Zimmer. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Sauro; grandson, John Sauro Jr.; his brothers, William, David, Henry ‘Dudley?, and Ralph; and his sisters, Elizabeth, and Eleanor in infancy.
A funeral service was held May 1 at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea, with Rev. Joy Barrett officiating. There will be a memorial service for both Harry and Garnetta on June 10, which would have been their 68th wedding anniversary. Memorial contributions may be made to Chelsea Meals on Wheels, 603 S.
