Members of Oxford AMVETS Post 108 were around town last week collecting donations and passing out clovers as part of the group’s 4th Annual Clover Days. According to Past Post 108 Commander John Bovee (pictured above left), more than $7,000 in donations were collected this year, a ‘new high? for the post, which collected about $6,600 last year. Since 1946, the white clover has been the official flower of the AMVETS, which was founded in 1944 and chartered by Congress in 1947. The clover symbolizes ‘those who have honorably served and those who are currently serving? and the ‘memory of our honored dead.? The money collected during Clover Days goes toward many worthy causes such as assisting veterans in need of financial aid or prothesis, local senior citizen programs, scholarships for graduating Oxford High seniors and local needy families.
