‘The Healing Power of the Arts? is a traveling art exhibit created to bring attention to the important role of art and creativity in the healing process. The exhibit makes two stops: one at the Orion Art Center in Downtown Lake Orion from July 12-August 12 and the second at the Art Experience in Downtown Pontiac from August 22-September 16.
Artists can drop off two framed pieces of art on June 30 between 12-7 and July 1 from 12-6 p.m. Art submissions are $25 for two pieces and should include an Artist’s Statement. These statements inform viewers of the artist’s experience relevant to healing. Anonymity will be maintained upon request.
‘Attendees of past Healing Power of the Arts exhibits have found the exhibit to be inspirational and even cathartic,? said Orion Arts Center Reggie Harrison.
Katie Serewicz is the featured artist this year. She was an art therapist, teacher and one of the founders of the Art Experience who, sadly, died earlier this year as the result of a ruptured cerebral aneurysm.
‘Katie’s artwork and efforts to bring creativity and the beauty of art to others continues to inspire even after her death,? Harrison said.
