For military families, the grass keeps growing even when their loved ones are deployed overseas.
Nick Sievers, owner and operator of Sievers and Sons full-service lawn and landscape business based in Independence Township, wants to help.
“Life for those at home continues and in their absence, their roles and responsibilities still need to be fulfilled,” said Sievers, who offers free lawncare services with GreenCare for Troops.
His cousin is a U.S. Marine reservist who volunteered for a tour of duty in Iraq.
“He left behind his wife and family and there was no organization or support in place in the community to provide the kind of assistance the family needed simply to care for their property,” Sievers said.
Sievers and Sons will donate services such as lawn maintenance, spring and fall cleanup, storm debris cleanup, lawn thatching, lawn aeration to qualifying individuals in northern Oakland and southern Genesee counties.
GreenCare for Troops is a national network of more than 2,400 volunteers providing free lawn care and landscape services to U.S. military families with loved ones currently deployed to the Middle East.
“I think it’s a great cause,” said Sievers, who also offers discount services to all current and retired members of the U.S. military. “People are out there fighting for our freedom. They protect us, while leaving their families behind. This is a good way to help people who protect us every day.”
