Brandon Twp. – Monday, Feb. 2, the township board passed a resolution to move forward on Phase II of the Hurd Road ditching project.
‘I’m excited about it,? said Township Supervisor, Ron Lapp.
‘Water will always be a problem but we’re hoping this will keep it down to a minimum,? he said after explaining that engineers from Hubble, Roth & Clark are already doing the preliminary numbers work on the cost of installing drainage south on Herd to Hummer Lake Road.
‘I’d like to be able to look at firm numbers by the end of February,? Lapp said.
Lapp says the ditching will move the runoff water away from residential properties to a detention pond constructed in the 2002 Phase I ditching project on Herd Road.
‘Topographically it has always been a wet area,? Lapp said.
‘That road traditionally floods out and creates a public safety issue which is why I’d like to eventually take the ditching past Hummer Lake Road.?
‘It’s one of the many roads in the township that needs drainage,? he added.
Lapp said the project will not drain 2004 township road repair funds because of carry over funds of more $57,000 of Tri-party funds add up to more than $200,000 are available along with $100,000 from the general township fund, and $66,000 in 2004 Tri-party funds.
Phase I of the project cost the township almost $160,000 to ditch three quarters of a mile on Herd Road.
Lapp said provided engineering plans are available by the targeted February date, he’d like to meet with residents, that will be effected by the project, in March, take bids in April or May and award the project to start in June or July.
The township is currently addressing water saturation levels from the Phase I ditching.
