The Davisburg Heritage Festival is back for its fourth year and bigger than ever.
The festival promises to be fun for the entire family as a range of activities take place, Oct. 13-14. Last year, over 2,500 people attended and even more are expected this year.
Springfield Township Parks and Recreation Coordinator Casey Reed is very involved in the planning of the festival. As the coordinator, it is her job to bring everybody together in planning for the event.
This year, there are some new aspects of the festival that she is excited about.
The Divine Mercy Parish Knights of Columbus Council will host a beer tent; there will be a stage with live music and more food vendors.
Broadway Auto will treat festival-goers with a car show, an old-time baseball/cricket game and a hat and mustache contest.
All of these new events are in addition to what was offered previously.
Some of those activities include a pancake breakfast, antique tractor and fire truck displays, historical exhibits and demonstrations, hayrides, crafts, old-time games and a parade.
The festival will take place throughout Davisburg, from the Hart Center to the township offices.
Although you may come and go to all the activities as you please, Reed recommended starting a day at the event with the pancake breakfast and then following the parade through downtown and finally to the township office building.
That way you get to experience the entire festival, she said.
Reed said that almost everything, except food at the festival is free, which makes it a good event for families.
‘There’s so much going on; it’s a full weekend of activities,? she said. ‘If you live here you can learn a little bit about the history of your town.?
With the festival being such a big event, volunteers are needed and appreciated for any time or service they can donate.
Reed said that Springfield Township Parks and Recreation is looking for volunteers to help with activities, as well as organizations to put activities on.
