About 35 golfers teed up to help raise funds for Clarkston Area Youth Assistance (CAYA) during their 19th Annual Golf Outing on June 15 at the Fountains Golf and Banquet Center.
The event was dedicated to CAYA supporter John Bowman of John Bowman Chevrolet, Inc. who passed away on May 9.
The CAYA organization develops mentoring and family education programs to help youth in Clarkston.
‘It’s all about the kids,? CAYA President Sam McVean said. McVean was happy to see so many participants, but they’re ‘hoping for more? next year.
Former President Joe Wauldron shared his appreciation for the volunteers; ‘people are giving up their time to make sure the community is aware,? he explained.
According to participants, CAYA’s Golf Outing was a success, but they couldn’t pull the event off alone. ‘We count on community business support,? Wauldron said. For example, the Clarkston Women’s Club helped to cover the cost of participants? golf carts, and the Print Shop made their fliers and programs.
Participants enjoyed a day of golfing, door prizes, and 50/50 drawings along with breakfast and lunch in the Fountains Banquet hall. CAYA’s next event is their annual meeting, which will take place on Oct. 15 at 7:30 a.m. at the Clarkston Methodist Church. For more information call 248-623-4313.
