Goodrich – The very first Gingerbread Gala in Goodrich promises to be a great way to kick off the Christmas holiday.
The gala will be from noon to 4 p.m. on Dec. 1 at the Family Life Center, at Goodrich United Methodist Church, 8071 S. State Road.
Chairman for the event, Becki Moe, said everyone is invited to design and decorate a gingerbread house for the gala’s competition. Entry forms are located at their website, www.GingerbreadGala.com.
‘We will also have an area set up for children to make gingerbread houses that are already constructed so all they have to do is decorate them,? said Moe. ‘I studied at school to be a pastry chef so I have wanted to put an event like this together for a long time. There is nothing like it in the community.?
She said there will be a myriad of activities for everyone to participate in.
Free pictures of children with Santa will be emailed to homes and kids can paint Santa cookie plates, creating a Christmas treasure that can be used every year.
In case the kids get hungry, a meal of hot dogs, chips and a pop will be available for $2.50.
Crafters, a bake sale, make and take gingerbread man cookies and a wreath silent auction will also add to the festivities. The money from the silent auction will go to the church kitchen need. We found a mom with five children whose husband is in Iraq,? she said.
Moe said the gala will be fun for the whole family and a great way to kick-off the Christmas holiday season. ‘The gala will have some good old-fashioned Christmas spirit, cookies and gingerbread,? she said.
Hoping the gala becomes a family tradition, Moe said, ‘This gingerbread gala is a great way to get families together. I am really excited about it and hope the gala gets bigger every year.?
