From pink limousines to army trucks and John Deere tractors to motorcycles and unicycles, the Clarkston Fourth of July parade offered a variety of sights. With over 100 parade participants, residents couldn’t resist celebrating the patriotic holiday downtown even in 90-degree temperatures.
With red, white, and blue costumes, sparkling banners, patriotic band music, and lots of candy, Clarkston kicked off Independence Day with the ‘American Made? parade.
After a stirring performance of ‘The Star Spangled Banner? by Mt. Zion student Tiffany Calhoun, veterans from the American Legion held flags high to commemorate the day our country declared its independence.
Children dressed in stars and stripes lined up along Main and Church Streets to catch candy tossed from atop fire trucks and floats. They also saw a few of their favorite comic book characters like The Incredible Hulk and Captain America who flexed their ‘muscles? for the crowd.
The Clarkston High School and Mt. Zion Samba bands boomed downtown with horns trumpeting and drums beating as beauty queens Miss Michigan and Miss Great Lakes waved to onlookers.
The Oakland County 4-H Poultry Club displayed blue and red chickens while tail wagging Canine All-Stars in patriotic sashes trotted down the road.
Bubbles billowed from bright red trucks and an enormous bald eagle and green lady liberty floated passed Clarkston’s historic buildings.
