Hunter optimistic about future of Brandon soccer

Brandon varsity boys soccer coach Nathan Hunter said a solid nucleus of returning players should translate into a improved team next year.
The Blackhawks finished their season Oct. 18 with a 3-0 loss to Pontiac Notre Dame Prep in district competition. Brandon finished 5-7-6 overall and 2-6-5 in the Flint Metro League, good for fifth place in the league.
Despite the losing record, Hunter said things are looking up for the Blackhawks.
‘We have a young core of kids that gained experience this year that are coming back next year,? he said. ‘We played very competitively in all our games this season.?
Among those returning next year are Matt Thomas, Chris Barth, Ryan Morales, and Jerry Cronk.
Hunter said the team will be doing plenty of work in the offseason to prepare for next season. He said all the team’s players will be playing travel soccer, undergo a fitness and training program, and participate in a soccer camp in northern Michigan.
‘The quality of our players is improving,? he said.
