The Independence Township Library is getting a new roof, sooner than expected.
Maintenance Director David Belcher informed township officials at the June 21 board meeting that his yearly inspection revealed the building’s shingles are deteriorating faster than expected. He added that the worn-out shingles are causing damage to the under structure.
The township board voted unanimously for Hunt Construction to replace the roof at a cost of $40,486. The money is scheduled in the library’s budget.
According to Belcher, he is working with the library’s original roofing company to get money back for the defective shingles.
‘They are standing by their product,? he told board members.
A refund amount has yet to be determined. Belcher said he would inform board members as soon as he knew the final number.
