Independence Village of Waterstone celebrated its tenth anniversary on June 3.
More than 300 people were in attendance to celebrate the milestone.
Staff, residents, and guests shared appetizers and danced along with the hired DJs. Special recognition was given to staff and residents who have been with Independence Village the entire time.
Completing their tenth year as residents are Etta Moon, Bill Liedtke, and Ann Smith.
Staff members who have worked along side these residents for the last decade include Mandie Williams, Waunita Baril, Lisa Kozin, Vicky Spivy, and Laura Ashley.
Executive Director Rebecca Eagle spoke fondly of these last 10 years, noting with pride the amenities offered by Independence Village.
Restaurant-style dining, large studio, one, or two bedroom apartments, in home personal health service, chaffeurs, and pet care are available at Independence Village.
Future goals for the retirement community are to expand the property, offer a greater continuum of care, and focus more on memory care for advancing seniors.
Eagle also said that the relationship between Independence Village and the community of Oxford was outstanding.
Oxford High School demonstrates a high level of involvement, with many students completing community service projects at the senior facility.
Oxford Village Fire Chief Peter Sholz said the staff treated his father very well.
They ‘all knew where he was and called him by name, which made him feel comfortable,? said the fire chief.
‘It can be difficult for anybody moving in? or taking a loved one to a retirment community, he observed.
But the staff at Independence Village does a ‘tremendous job caring for residents and making them feel at home,? Scholz said.
