Ortonville- Will this year’s ‘Night at the Races? be entertaining?
You can bet on it.
The third annual event in which guests view and bet on horse races is planned for 6:30-9:30 p.m., March 24, at the Old Town Hall, 486 Mill St.
Attendees have the opportunity to win a variety of prize packages while enjoying food, a cash bar, and each other’s company and will also be supporting CreekFest. Admission is $20 for theater seating and $30 for reserve tables. Proceeds benefit CreekFest, held in the village in June.
During ‘Night at the Races? guests view video of previously held horse races such as the Kentucky Derby, in which the names of the jockeys and horses have been taken out. There will be 10 horses to bet on each race, and guests will get ‘funny money? to place bets with. Two more races have been added this year.
‘It’s rowdy and fun,? said DDA Executive Director Molly LaLone. ‘Come and watch videotapes of horse races and yell for your horse as everyone else does. There are many chances to win, the prizes are great and there are a lot of them.?
Sherman Publications Assistant Publisher Don Rush will emcee again this year.
More than 32 prizes will be given away, all with a minimum value of $40 and an average value of $80, donated from businesses and individuals.
Participants do not need to be present to win the grand prize, a mini-vacation at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mt. Pleasant. The trip is two nights, all-inclusive with restaurant and gambling vouchers.
‘Night at the Races? had 76 attendees last year and raised $900 for Crossman Park improvements. LaLone is excited about what this year’s event will do for CreekFest.
‘It was very clear it was important to the community to keep Creekfest going and get some sponsorship,? she said. ‘The community has been overwhelmingly supportive of having the event. Thank you very much, Ortonville.?
