James Kenneth “Jim” Naugler of Holly died Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016 at his residence.
He was 62
James was born in Detroit, May 30, 1954, the son of Gordon and Dorothy (Keddy) Naugler.
On Dec. 8, 1978 he married Robin Stewart in Grand Blanc.
He was a Class-A member of the GCSAA and he advanced to the Sweet 16 of the Michigan Golf Amateur Championship in 1983. James joined the Atlas Township Fire Department in 1981, promoted to assistant chief in 1984 and served as chief from 1986 to 1997. In 2002 he returned as chief and retired again in 2006. He was also former president of the Genesee Fire Chief’s Association, President of the Mid-Michigan Golf Course Superintendents Association and President of the Goodrich Chamber of Commerce.
He was named Citizen of the Year by the Goodrich Masonic Temple in 1992 and was on the Board of Directors for the Michigan Turf Grass Foundation.
He loved golf, hunting, casinos, watching MSU football and basketball games; Tigers games, Lions games and Red Wings games, and spending time with his family and friends.
James was employed as a golf course superintendent at The Links at Crystal Lake, Pontiac.
Surviving are wife, Robin Naugler; son, James Naugler; daughter, Heather Naugler; son, Stu Naugler; sisters, Donna, Linda, Brenda and JoJo;brother,Wayne along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Desmond.
Memorial service will be1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. Visitation noon Saturday until the time of the memorial service at the funeral home.
