Oxford resident Jesse Burch, who played for an Oxford Wildcats 13U Federation baseball team, was invited to play at the All Stars tournament of his choice through Game Day USA.
He chose the tournament in Grand Rapids held the weekend of Aug. 1-2.
Kids from all over the United States and Canada met and were formed into teams by age group (13U). Jesse was put on the black team. He had kids from Illinois, Indiana and Michigan on his team. There were 10 players total.
‘It was amazing (to see) how these boys came together and played like they have been playing together for years,? said Jeanette Burch, his mother. ‘They had so much fun together. You could feel their excitement. Jesse hit two homeruns, two triples and several doubles. His pitching was awesome.?
As it turned out, they swept the tournament, winning four games in a row over two days, and won the Grand Rapids All-Star Tournament.
‘What a memory for these boys,? Jeanette said. ‘They all received championship rings.?
