The Lake Orion High School junior varsity softball team won its first tournament of the season in Howell recently, rolling to a 4-0 record with wins over Fowlerville, Lakeland and Howell (twice).
The bats were rocking with a team average of .581, while outscoring opponents 62-11. The offense was led by the following: Rose Romanchak, batting .692 with 10 hits; Chelsea Chevrier, batting .667 with four doubles; and Layne Smedley, batting .643 with 10 runs scored and seven RBI.
Also contributing were: Natalie Hunt, batting .625 with nine runs scored, 10 hits and nine RBI; and Lisa Carroll, batting .625 with eight runs scored, nine hits and six RBI.
Defensive standouts included catcher Sasha Perryman and Jennifer Chapdelaine at third base. Strong pitching performances were turned in by Christina Collins, with two wins and 17 strikeouts, and an ERA of 1.40; and Katie Paul, with one win and one save, and an ERA of 3.86 and zero walks.
For the season, the Lake Orion Dragons JV team is now 18-0.
