A jury of eight women and four men took less than three hours Friday to find Ramon Felix Pineda guilty of second-degree murder in the Aug. 26 death of off-duty Flint police officer Vincent D’Anna.
Sentencing was scheduled for June 4’Pineda, 26, an illegal Mexican immigrant, faces a term of anywhere from 15 years to life in prison.
During the course of the weeklong trial, 12 witnesses took the stand to describe the crash scene: The driver of a white 1992 Camaro revved his car’s engine repeatedly as he hit the 2007 Suzuki motorcycle D’Anna, 26, was riding on southbound Sashabaw in Independence Township, then hit it again, causing D’Anna to fall, then hit a third time, rolling over D’Anna and trapping him between the car’s front and rear tires.
The jury also found Pineda guilty of driving while intoxicated causing death, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, operating a vehicle with a suspended license and false certification of personal information to obtain a driver’s license.
Judge Wendy Potts presided over the trial and will hand down the sentence June 4.
