They say a picture is worth a 1,000 words.
Well, here’s three pictures (or 3,000 words) Oxford Village voters should take a look at before they vote in the Tuesday, Aug. 5 election. See page 1 for the story.
The first is a picture of Sam and Sandy Troutwine. These are the two residents of 42 E. Burdick St.
If the busy and noisy S. Mill St. is moved next door to the Troutwines’ home of 23 years, the couple says it will adversely affect the value of their property and greatly diminish their privacy.
I’ve previously written a column explaining why I as a village resident will be voting “NO.”
In a nutshell, I cannot in good conscience vote to devalue the home of fellow residents, take away some of their privacy and diminish their rights.
But that’s me. You have to vote your conscience.
But before you vote Tuesday, you should see the people and property your vote will affect.
Hence, the above photographs.
The other two pictures are of the Troutwines’ home (in the forefront of the top photo and on the left of the bottom one) and the OCDA-owned home (38 E. Burdick St.) next door to it.
If the OCDA has its way, its home will be replaced with a relocated S. Mill St. The Troutwines are opposed to such an action. As Sandy so eloquently stated at the June 24 council meeting, “You’re giving people the right to vote on something that really isn’t affecting them. . .It affects us. It affects us economically. It affects us personally.”
Some argue that you can’t stop Progress. Some say the Troutwines are paying the price for Progress.
I say this isn’t Progress. And you can stop it with your vote, if you want to. I’m going to try with mine.
