‘We’re starting our fourth year here in Oxford and we’re still having fun!? said Gary Lepak, co-owner and operator of Kalloway’s Restaurant and Pub.
Anyone who knows Kalloway’s or Lepak can tell you that the mere word ‘fun? does not even begin to describe the atmosphere at the local family restaurant.
From the tantalizing menu items to the unique entertainment, Kalloway’s offers a little something for people of all ages.
‘We’ve worked hard to meet the community’s and residents? requests, needs and desires,? Lepak said.
Let’s start our tour of Kalloway’s with the kitchen ? where the magic happens.
Besides maintaining the high level of quality and consistency in each Kalloway’s menu item, Head Chef Jaime Fleissner and chefs Matt Murray, Brian Hall and John Turner are always creating some new and exciting taste treat to delight the senses.
A new favorite at Kalloway’s these days is the ‘Shrimp Kargot,? which consists of six fresh shrimp tucked into a unique metal crock with garlic butter, cream cheese and herbs then topped with mozzarella cheese and baked. It’s served with a side of fresh, hot garlic bread.
‘It started out as a special, but it got so popular and we had so many requests for it that we added it as a regular menu item,? Lepak said.
For you crab lovers, don’t forget Kalloway’s ‘All You Can Eat Crableg? nights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Once the car cruise begins in May, those days will switch to Wednesdays and Thursdays.
For those who crave more traditional dishes like mom used to make, Kalloway’s will begin offering ‘Homestyle Meals? this fall. Roast beef, turkey and mashed potatoes are just some of the mouth-watering classics Chef Jaime and his crew will be serving up.
Despite the new items, some things will never change like the classic ‘Kalloway Salad,? with its tossed greens, sun-dried cherries, slice apples, mandarine oranges and strawberries, all topped with a honey laced grilled chicken breast and sprinkled with pecans.
Or try ‘The Driver,? an 8-ounce prime rib topped with sauteed onions, mushrooms and melted Swiss cheese on a large hoagie roll and served with au jus.
Whatever you do, don’t forget to try the barbecue ribs with Kalloway’s special sauce. They’re tops!
If you really want to treat yourself, sample Kalloway’s ‘Master’s Brunch? every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
But man cannot live on bread alone ? even if it is served with a Kalloway’s dinner.
For those who like a little something extra with their meals, Kalloway’s offers ‘Afternoon Dinner Theatre? and ‘Murder Mysteries.?
The afternoon dinner theatres are especially popular with senior citizens who come from all over Oakland and surrounding counties to see the shows.
Or maybe you’d like to take a trip back in time and relive those thrilling days of yesteryear when Elvis was king and cars had tail fins?
Then visit Kalloway’s 4th Annual Classic Car Kruise every Tuesday from May through October.
In excess of 200 classic cars pack the Kalloway’s parking lot for these weekly events, which feature music from the 1950s and 1960s by ‘Phil the Doo Wop D.J.,? door prizes, exciting raffles and the coveted ‘Cruiser of the Week? and ‘Crusier of the Month? awards.
Once the weather warms up, Kalloway’s spacious outdoor deck will be open for business complete with Tiki Bar and musical acts. Lepak is looking into hosting a Blues Night on the deck once a week.
If golf is your thing, don’t forget to sign up for the 3rd Annual Kalloway’s Spring Golf Classic scheduled for Monday, June 2.
For the kids this summer, Kalloway’s is proud to present the return of the Kids Club on Saturday mornings. Children can enjoy a kid-style buffet ? with such favorites as hot dogs ? while being entertained by clowns, magicians or whatever else Lepak (or ‘Mr. Kalloway? as the kids call him) has in store.
For you sports fans, Kalloway’s will be hosting events, fund-raisers and ticket giveaways with the Detroit Fury (an arena football team that plays at the Palace of Auburn Hills) and the Detroit Shock (the Women’s National Basketball Association team that also plays at the Palace).
As you can see there’s always something going on at Kalloway’s Restaurant and Pub because behind the action-packed eatery is a energetic staff consisting of Lepak’s sister Geralyn Fullerton (who handles the bookkeeping and managerial duties) and managers Shannon Card, Nicole Snider and John Schloff ? all of whom have been with Kalloway’s from the beginning.
Lepak also credits much of Kalloway’s success to his silent partner Bob Hamilton. ‘He’s been a great source of support,? Lepak said.
There’s just so much happening at Kalloway’s this article cannot possibly do it justice. You’re just going to have to check it out for yourself.
