Kelly’s ‘got game? and shares it with Detroit Medical Center

For his Eagle Scout leadership service project, Ian Kelly is leading a team of Scouts from Lake Orion Troop 128 in collecting used video games and game systems for donation to Children’s Hospital.
Kelly researched the various therapy protocols for children hospitalized for long periods of time and learned that video games play an important part in the physical, mental, emotional and social recovery for many hospitalized children.
An avid gamer himself, Kelly decided to share his interest in video games by providing DMC with games and systems.
His team will collect used games and systems in many of the Lake Orion Community Schools and several area churches. In addition, Kelly will also have a collection site at the Orion Township Library.
Used video games and systems can be dropped off at any of the locations, or at St. Mary’s In-The-Hills on Joslyn Court from now through May 17.
One focus of the new games will be on purchasing musically based games, which are used in a relatively new music therapy program at the hospital.
Donations for purchasing new games and game systems can be made payable to Troop 128, with a memo: ‘Eagle Project? and mailed to Troop 128 Eagle Project, c/o 4200 LouMar Lane, Orion, MI 48359.
