Kevin Harrison, owner of KH Homes was very pleased of the turnout he had for the open houses at his new location on Main Street, Friday and Saturday night.
‘We had a fantastic weekend,? he said. ‘We had hoped for 300 and we had over that Saturday night and Friday night was great too.?
Harrison moved his business from next to Clarkston Travel on Main Street to the old Max Broock Street at the corner of Main and Depot Road.
‘Just being one block south of where we were has made a huge difference in our daily traffic,? he said. ‘We did buy the building ? we didn’t want to put as much money into improving a building that we didn’t own, so that was important to us. We really view this as our permanent location.?
Harrison said they originally had planned to take the old Village Apparel, building but the deal fell apart at the last minute and they had to react quickly, because their business plan called for a larger space.
‘We were sensitive about the work we did to it, to make sure that the historical integrity was maintained,? he said. ‘What we did was more of a reconstruction than major changes to the building.?
They removed walls out had been put in place for its time as a real-estate office, but the 100 year old maple floors are still intact.
The work was done by Sam Moraco, Moraca Building, Mike Mossoian, Mossoian Paiting Co., and Ron Bonner Construction Inc, who did the cultured concrete work in the lower level.
Harrison has also teamed up with Greg and Barb Parsons of ‘Clever Closets.?
‘Barb Parsons has worked with me for awhile. I’ve known them from working with them on their home. When they heard we were hoping for a new building. They approached me wondering if there was anyway we could do a partnership because I’ve used them to do closets for project work,? Harrison said. ‘I think they’re great and a great value, so I’m thrilled they’re a part of our space.?
He also noted they intend on finishing the upper (third) level at some point down the road, though he is thrilled to be where he is, as far as location and business.
He knows the only way to keep things going well is to always be ‘price conscience.?
‘We kind of want to fill the void in Clarkston, not only for design and furniture, but also for gifts and impulse buy, the price is always important,? he said. ‘We’re thrilled with the response we had over the weekend and all the positive things people had to say about our relocation.?
